Saultloom – Syzygy [Magician On Duty]

Magician On Duty begins the month of May by welcoming Saultloom to the label for his debut EP. The Russian artist has carved out a unique space with the organic house underground. His combination of rhythm, groove and musicality has landed him releases on some of movements premiere imprints, most notably Lost Diaries, Manjumasi and Where The Heart Is. Now following an EP for Souq Records, Saultloom lands on Magician On Duty with 'Syzygy'.

Much loved for his exploration of all things deep and trippy, Saultloom delivers some of his most intriguing work to date with 'Syzygy'. Building in waves, it’s organic beats, exotic percussion and dusty artefacts are a delight for the senses. Haunting overlays add depth across the first act, while timely effects and fragmented melodies weave an engaging eight minute storyboard. Sound design is at a premium here, making these great ideas all the more enjoyable to listen to.

Operating on a similar creative plane is the companion piece 'Sonder'. From stripped down beginnings comes hopeful atmospheres and redolent shades, slowly descending over dulcet beats and organic drums. As the narrative evolves so too does its emotive appeal, with muted pianos and gentle sweeps trailing over the framework, before a heartfelt break effortlessly segues into a charming final act. It caps off a hugely creative EP from one of the deep house scene’s freshest artists in Saultloom, and further solidifies Magician On Duty’s place in the burgeoning genre. Highly recommended.
