Rikken – Origin [Soundteller Records]

Following on from the March release of 'Rosette Nebula', Rikken returns to Deersky's Soundteller Records with 'Origin'. Based in Berlin, the German producer would have to be considered one of the label's primary artists, with four releases in the books since making his label debut in 2020. Enjoying his most prolific year to date, Rikken now comes off projects for Another Life Music and Future Avenue with his latest Soundteller vehicle 'Origin'.

Clocking in at eight minutes, it’s the deep sounds of the title selection which lead the release off. Nicely produced with great flow and progression, Rikken works dark effects and tranquil arps over a warm, pulsating groove as layers of percussion add drive leading into the break. The interlude furthers it’s melodic appeal with a tasteful blend of arpeggiated fragments and intoxicating atmospheres, perfectly setting the stage for a sleek finale.

The release concludes with ‘Variation’ which sits as an equally impressive companion. Complementing its warm groove are punchy beats, rolling rhythmic themes and a colourful harmonic backdrop. Fuzzed out synth phrasing dominates the main break, shapeshifting across a bed of effervescent electronics, before a timely drop sparks a heads down finale. It rounds out two smooth and well produced tracks from Rikken, who once again has saved his best material for Soundteller. Highly recommended.
