Ric Niels & Aman Anand – Connected EP [Soundteller Records]

Ric Niels and Aman Anand present their debut collaboration via Deersky's Soundteller Records. Hailing from Argentina and India respectively the duo have both enjoyed measurable success in their solo careers. Although only appearing just over a year ago, Ric Niels has risen quickly with key releases via 3rd Avenue, Clubsonica Records, Dopamine White, Mango Alley and Movement Recordings, while also earning play and support from progressive music tastemakers Hernan Cattaneo, Nick Warren and Guy J. Meanwhile, Aman Anand would have to be considered a veteran of the scene with a career that spans the better part of a decade and highlighted by releases courtesy of Hernan Cattaneo's Sudbeat Music, 3rd Avenue, Balkan Connection and Juicebox Music. Now joining forces for the first time, Ric and Aman return to Soundteller for their debut collaboration 'Connected'.

The release begins with a solo production from Ric entitled 'Stan'. The Argentinean artist has turned in gem after gem this year and it continues here with a sleek yet powerful production that should fare well at peak time hours. Smooth hypnotic drive, trippy effects and fragmented melodies are the order of the day here, working in perfect unison for a near nine minute journey. Smooth chord changes add nicely to the narrative, bringing depth and emotion across the first act and setting up a tasteful apex in the process.

The release concludes with the collaborative work 'Connected' which sees Ric and Aman craft a deeper, more emotional piece than its predecessor. The tempo shifts down a touch with a character rich groove anchoring an amalgamation of creamy melodies, effervescent percussion and hopeful atmospheres. A gentle rise proves to be quite tasteful leading into the break, which ultimately sets up a dreamy, reflective finale that brings the best traits of both artists. A perfect track for the current season and hopefully the first of many from Ric and Aman. Highly recommended.
