Pranay Ryan – Retrospective [Deepwibe Underground]

The latest release from Deepwibe Underground welcomes Pranay Ryan to the label for his debut EP. Hailing from India but now based in Poland, Pranay Ryan has been showcasing his unique brand of melodic house for half a decade. BC2, Massive Harmony Records and Zephyr Music have played host to the Indian artists groovy sound, with forthcoming music already signed to 3rd Avenue and Stellar Fountain. Also an accomplished DJ, Pranay has shared the booth with some of progressive music's premiere talent, such as Guy J, Guy Mantzur and Dmitry Molosh. Now stepping up to Deepwibe Underground for his first EP, Pranay presents 'Retrospective', alongside a remix from Ivanshee.

Made up of two tracks it’s the electric qualities of the title cut which gets the EP off to a great start. Full and fluid, it’s muscular low end, detailed percussion and buzzing rhythms unite for a striking first act. A storyboard of vibrant stabs and fragmented effects continue to build the narrative, eventually revealing a symphonic theme which initiates the main break. As the centrepiece evolves so to does its emotive appeal, with placid atmospheres descending over a bed of effervescent electronics, before a whimsical arp cluster sparks a commanding drop and huge finale. Continuing the progressive minded ethos of the EP is the second selection ‘Bittersweet Symphony’. Beautifully constructed, its rhythmic core is adorned with clattering drums and billowing tonal themes, while a massive groove ultimately powers the electric journey. It’s a creation which builds through a dazzling array of effects and progressive minded melodies, making its mind bending nature infectious and perfectly setting up a piano led break and trance inducing final movement.

The release concludes with Ivanshee who returns to the label and provides the lone interpretation of 'Retrospective'. Hailing from Belarus, Ivan Shpakouski aka Ivanshee has been pushing his energetic brand of progressive house since 2011. Releases on John OO Fleming’s JOOF Aura, Balkan Connection, Juicebox Music and his own Eternal Beats imprint highlight his discography, while his music has also found favour with world class DJ Hernan Cattaneo. Having remixed 'Baltic Pearl' by Monograph and Teleport-X in April of last year, Ivanshee now returns to Deepwibe Underground with a powerful remix of 'Retrospective'. Drawing on the sensibilities of the original, Ivan opens the framework up for a more spacious and more melodic affair. The Belarusian artist carves out a pulsating groove adorned with firing percussive, meditative lines and fresh harmonic phrases. Poignant chord changes provide a unique emotional response, as charming overlays and symphonic arps create a bridge into an impactful break, before smoothly shifting energy into a driving finale. A stunning interpretation from Ivanshee, capping off another exceptional release for Deepwibe Underground that is not to be missed.
