Nico Beren – Semblance/Tonatiuh [Astrowave]

Nico Beren debuts on Astrowave with a spacey two tracker 'Semblance/Tonatiuh'. The Argentinean artist first came to our attention with his debut on parent label Stellar Fountain. The January release of 'Bright' came alongside remixes from Monojoke and Orange & Indigo, thus kick-starting the career of the Mar del Plata resident. Now presenting just his second release Nico sticks with Stellar Fountain family with a new EP via Astrowave.

Beginning with ‘Semblance’ Nico explores a deeper progressive sensibility which is well inline with the label's ethos. Warm, inviting and undeniably smooth, it’s a creation which quickly captures your imagination, gently pulsating with percussive momentum as wispy effects, hazy harmonics and atmospheric drifts further saturate your senses. Rich in texture and meditative qualities, it's definitely a creation to get lost in during a late night listening session.

The companion piece ‘Tonatiuh’ continues the deeper organic sensibilities of it’s predecessor. A touch more emotive, it's exotic percussion, vocal fragments and tranquil arps form a gorgeous narrative, as angelic pads slowly descend over the framework. The main break melts down to a radiant glow with tasteful modulation and a rush of noise providing just the right amount of emotion to spark a purring finale. It caps off an excellent follow up to 'Bright' and continues what has been a great beginning for Nico Beren. Highly recommended.
