Balkan Connection welcomes back long running label artist Nicholas Van Orton for a brand new EP. The Argentinean producer and BCSA label boss has spent a good portion of his career contributing to the long standing Serbian imprint. Now following a remix for Julian Rodriguez’s Massive Harmony Records, Nicholas returns to Balkan Connection with ‘Volytz’ alongside remixes from Alfonso Muchacho and Juan Pablo Torrez.

Long regarded as a groove crafting master, Nicholas out does himself once again with two impeccable productions beginning with the title cut ‘Volytz’. Warm and rhythmic from the outset the piece effortlessly transitions through fragmented melodies and trippy effects before eventually melting down into a buzzing interlude. For as impressive as the surrounding design is this, like many of NVO’s tracks comes down to the groove construction. It’s just so conducive to a progressive minded dance floor with it’s hop swinging cadence and rich character. The companion piece ‘Maniluna’ comes in a touch deeper and tripper but no less groovy. Again backed by wonderfully contoured slabs of bass it’s melancholic storyboard is delightful and captivating. There’s an eerie cinematic air which meanders throughout the journey, a touch icy at times, making the emotive qualities during the break all the more powerful.

Two all-star remixers complete the project in Alfonso Muchacho and Juan Pablo Torrez. First up UK based artist Alfonso Muchacho brings ‘Volytz’ closer to peak time territory with a romping, pure progressive groove and dark rhythmic qualities. That dark underbelly gets wonderfully offset with a sparse yet poignant piano motif, highly processed and quite indistinct, it brings a mystical quality to the mix which not only builds anticipation but hits just the right emotional sensors.

The release concludes with one of Colombia’s finest in Juan Pablo Torrez. The Clubsonica Records boss has grown immensely both as an artist and DJ this past year. A recent tour of Hungary with follow countryman Kamilo Sanclemente coupled with continued support from Hernan Cattaneo and Nick Warren have made Juan one of this years most celebrated progressive house artists. A selective release schedule has made each of the Colombian’s productions most anticipated and his remix here is no different. Smooth and exhilarating, it’s an eight minute storyboard of charming melodies and irresistible grooves. Spanning almost two minutes in length, the main break builds effortlessly as astral designs and a bubbly melodic lead converge for a warm rush and epic finale. A brilliant remix from Juan who continues to be one of Colombia’s brightest stars. It caps off a spot on release from Balkan Connection that belongs in every progressive music fans collection.
