Mind Echoes – 14 Joys [RKP]

Continuing what has been a strong fourth quarter, Ruben Karapetyan’s RKP welcomes Mind Echoes to the label for his debut EP. Hailing from Brazil, Vitor Menescal aka Mind Echoes has enjoyed a steady rise since first emerging in 2022 with a contribution to ‘Transenses’, a popular various artists series by Transensations Records. Noted for his progressive style, the Fortaleza resident would form a strong bond with the label going forward, recording six originals and a remix across the next two calendar years. Additional projects via 3rd Avenue, Comet Records and Droid9 also sit prominently on his discography, while progressive house tastemakers in Hernan Cattaneo, Gai Barone, Khen and more have chimed in with support. Now, continuing on an upwards trajectory, Mind Echoes adds RKP to his resume with a two track showcase ‘14 Joys’.

‘14 Joys’ leads the release off in fine fashion and only furthers Mind Echoes’ knack for crafting cutting edge progressive house. Strong kick drums and a bed of chunky rhythms provide the anchor for layers of clattering percussion and sweeping effects. Cruising with an effortless ease, there's a strong sense of flow across the first act, as gated vocals sit below the surface and pyrotechnic synths steal the air, not only adding depth and character, but a tension filled rise leading into a timely break. Here, prophetic design qualities and trance inducing arps create a sense of anticipation, eventually giving way to a tasteful build and uplifting finale.

The equally impressive 'Reconstruction’ serves as the companion piece and complements its predecessor very well. Geared more towards groovier dancefloor moments, Mind Echoes' tried and tested production chops serve him well here, bursting with colourful qualities and a keen sense of rhythm and groove, as basslines ripple and atmospheres meander. Woody claps and fuzzy arps add depth, character and swing leading into the break, bringing with them a quirky state of mind, before getting washed away as phasing pads and a rush of drums spark a driving conclusion to round out the EP on an energetic note.
