Matteo Monero – Embracing the Fear [Stellar Fountain]

Matteo Monero returns to Stellar Fountain this week with a brand new single 'Embracing the Fear'. The Italian artist last appeared on the Hungarian imprint in September of last year with a well received remix of Brian Muszkat's 'Dancing With Crows'. Now after beginning the year with remixes for Just Movement and Massive Harmony, Matteo presents his first single of 2019 alongside remixes from Gabriel Nery and Anar & Mika D.

Matteo's recent work has been drifting closer to astral techno territory and 'Embracing The Fear' certainly does as well. It's stripped, punchy framework is adorned with a variety of wonky synth motifs, some sitting gently under the surface while others make for dynamic moments. The underlying textural work is what ultimately opens the piece up into something more otherworldly and emotive however, leading nicely into a wonderfully trippy break and heady finale.

Gabriel Nery has been having a great year thus far with standout releases on Clubsonica Records and MNL. The Argentinean artist and Hernan Cattaneo fave now debuts on Stellar Fountain with a superb remix of 'Embracing The Fear'. The Buenos Aires resident puts more of a pure progressive spin on the track with a focus on the atmospheric qualities of the original rather than the boisterous synth elements. Smooth, rolling and full of great rhythmic qualities, it's the progressive sound of now and likely headed for the sets of Hernan Cattaneo once again.

Rounding out the release is Anar & Mika D who return to the label for their second appearance. Based in Mongolia and Hungary respectively, the duo made their Stellar Fountain debut in October of last year with 'Choices We Make'. Now following a remix for Julian Rodriguez's Massive Harmony Records to begin the year, Anar & Mika D turn in a top interpretation of 'Embracing the Fear'. While maintaining some of the quirkiness of the original the duo present a progressive minded rendition that complements the previous versions quite nicely. Dark and ominous at moments but eventually opening up into an emotive break, there's a broad spectrum of feelings locked inside this one which makes for an excellent seven minute journey to cap the release off in style. Highly recommended.
