Mariano Mellino & John Cosani – Ying Yue / Zhen Kai [Beat Boutique]

Mariano Mellino & John Cosani land on DJ Zombi's Beat Boutique with a new double a-side release 'Ying Yue / Zhen Kai'. This is not the first time the Argentinean duo have worked together, having delivered original music for Movement Recordings and Sudbeat in 2017 and earlier this year respectively. Now the Hernan Cattaneo favourites land on Beat Boutique with their two new originals 'Ying Yue' and 'Zhen Kai'.

Beginning with the groovy, cutting edge sounds of 'Ying Yue' it’s clear the duo has crafted some of their best ever work. Free and flowing across it’s near eight minute journey, it’s a sensory delight full of great dance floor dynamics. As mounds of bass undulate, ghostly harmonics and melodic fragments add a cosmic vibe, before eventually melting down into a break where a more distinct theme forms. Building subtly, tasteful modulation adds just the right amount tension before a classy drop resets the groove for a smooth finale.

The companion piece ‘Zhen Kai’ comes with a similar and equally brilliant oriental vibe. Warm, punchy beats and tranquil lines set an emotive mood early, with glassy designs and rugged rhythms adding nicely to it's electric charm. The main break furthers the grandiose appeal, melting down to a misty haze as crisp stabs pierce the air, perfectly segueing into a sizzling acid line and powerful drop. It rounds out two brilliant cuts from Mariano and John which would have to the duos best work to date and perhaps one of Beat Boutique's most sought after releases of the year. Highly recommended.
