Inspired By Trees continues a strong summer season by welcoming Jay Phonic back to the label for a new single. Based in Switzerland, Jay Phonic has been a primary contributor to Inspired By Trees since the label's third release in 2018 when he made his debut with 'Fighter'. Fast forward five years and the Argovia resident has recorded four originals and a remix for the Swiss imprint, while also landed projects for Stellar Fountain's Black division and Superordinate Music. Now presenting his first original production of the year, Jay returns to Inspired By Trees with 'Space Village', alongside remixes from Paege and Kent Kaina.

With the original mix Jay does what he does best and that's create an engaging hypnotic journey that would be at home on a dance floor or a late night listening session. Tough kick drums and flickering percussive arrangements set the course for reflective chord stabs and rising atmospheric tension. Jay allows the listener to relish in the groove, tactfully building anticipation across the first act, which eventually gets resolved across a short but emotive break. Solemn and sparse, the interlude's pronounced piano stabs, two to be exact, create a gorgeous melodic mood, quickly getting washed away in a flurry of drums as the beats drop for a percolating finale. Definitely one for a late night dancefloor.

First up on the remixes is Inspired By Trees label boss Paege who presents his first new music since 2021's 'Squirrel Concept', a single via Berlin's Grey Bar Hotel. Always a creative remixer, as evidenced by his past takes on Vanilla Gorilla and Dole & Kom, the Swiss artist masterful reworks 'Space Village' into a sleek slice of melodic house & techno. The tough hypnotic sensibility from the original is well maintained, while the distinctive piano theme gets utilized following the break rather than during, ultimately creating a gorgeous and suitably glowing conclusion. A perfect morning record perhaps.

The release concludes with Kent Kaina returning to the label for the second and final remix of 'Space Village'. No stranger to remixing fellow countryman Jay Phonic, Kent has put his production touch on two of Jay's past tracks, most recently in 2021 on 'Sticky Choir', also released via Inspired By Trees. For his 'Space Village' interpretation Kent opts for a sparser more minimal approach which works really well. The main atmospheric and melodic themes breathe beautifully across it's seven-minute running time, nicely anchored by a compact framework of tight kick drums and snappy percussion. Not only is it a good choice to set the mood of a room but it rounds out one of Inspired By Trees best releases of the year thus far. Highly recommended.
