Praveen Achary's Juicebox Music opens the month of April with a new single from Forty Cats. With well over a decade’s worth of DJ experience, Russian artist Christina Gavrilova aka Forty Cats has been a fixture of her country’s nightlife, sharing the stage with Jody Wisternoff, Nick Warren, Yotto, Dave Seaman and more. Christina’s production debut landed three years ago via 8bit Music, and in relatively short order the Russian artist has gone on to release projects via Lane 8’s This Never Happened, Hernan Cattaneo’s Sudbeat Music and Mango Alley. Also finding a home on Juicebox Music, Forty Cats debuted on the label late last year with a two-track EP co-produced with Mango and Meeting Molly. Now following projects for Deepwibe Underground, Strange Town and Sound Avenue, Forty Cats returns to Juicebox for her first solo project 'Moscow Time', alongside remixes from Da Luka & Jorgio Kioris and Greg Tomaz.

Beloved for her sleek, energetic brand of progressive house, Forty Cats dials in another beauty with 'Moscow Time'. The low end rolls with capsizing swing early on and as the journey progresses you find out why the Russian artist has risen so quicken. Layers of expertly manicured percussion add a lively bounce, while indistinct vocals, percolating arps and a truly stunning array of effects complete what is a sure fire dance floor slam.

Returning to the label for the first remix are Juicebox artists Da Luka & Jorgio Kioris. Hailing from Albania and Greece respectively, Da Luka and Jorgio have been occasional studio partners in recent years, recording remixes for Droid9 and Strange Town Recordings. Perhaps the duo's shining moment thus far however has been 'Karma', a 2021 single for Juicebox backed by remixes from Paul Deep and Nichols, which still sits prominently in their respective Beatport best sellers charts a year after the release. Moving forward and building on their creative synergy Da Luka and Jorgio now land back on Juicebox with a massive remix of 'Moscow Time'. This version is a lesson in restraint to some extent, with a roomier framework letting strong bass lines and timely effects work their magic. The vocal and primary synth elements play a strong role in the production, but the brilliance of this mix really comes down to perfectly sculpted grooves and knowing when to hold back.

Rounding out the release with the final remix is Indian artist and Juicebox label manager Greg Tomaz. It's been a prolific year for the Bangalore resident thus far, with well-received remixes for LAIKA Sounds, Massive Harmony and Stripped Digital already in the books. Continuing on that trajectory, Greg's 'Moscow Time' rendition also lands with considerable appeal. Full and fluid like the original, Greg ups tempo and drive, while wavy percussive arrangements, reprocessed vocals and hopeful pads unite for a colourful peak time style rework to close the release out in fine style. A stunning remix from Greg, which caps off an excellent return to Juicebox Music for himself, Da Luka & Jorgio Kioros and Forty Cats. Highly recommended.
