Deep Fog – Nebula [Soundteller Records]

Deersky’s Soundteller Records follows up a successful 2018 with an EP from Deep Fog to begin the new year. Of late the Polish artist has generally been paired with frequent studio partner and fellow countryman Cream but in this rare instance he is solo in presenting his ‘Nebula’ EP.

Beginning with ‘Eagle Nebula’ Deep Fog explores dreamy sounds and fluid themes. Warm, groovy and tastefully emotive, it’s a creation which quickly captures your imagination, pulsating with tranquil arps and tough beats as luminous pads further expand your consciousness. The main break proves impactful, gently building melodic tension before dropping out into an awe inspiring moment, as a wave of beats and percussion further elevates the mood through a stunning finale.

The companion piece ‘Helix Nebula’ shifts the vibe considerably with a tougher more stripped sensibility. Anchored by a chunky groove and tight, punchy core the piece develops as clanky drums and rugged stabs fill in the framework. The break introduces a granular wave, elevating across a tension filled minute as muted beats drop out and a wall of white noise sends the piece into a crushing drop. Perhaps not something you would expect from Deep Fog but it’s a track which makes this a diverse and incredibly satisfying EP. Great choices from Soundteller once again, who get the new year off to a great start.
