Dante Pippi & Demitros – Maculelê [Balkan Connection]

Balkan Connection celebrates the holiday season with a new EP from Dante Pippi & Demitros. The Brazilian duo first appeared on the Serbian imprint in November with a remix of ‘Runaway’ by Sohrab G. Now following an EP for Proton’s Particles, the duo lands back on Balkan Connection with ‘Maculele’ alongside remixes from Hot TuneiK.

Beginning with the title cut Dante and Demitros explore tropical themes over a progressive minded foundation. It's an interesting amalgamation and one which works incredibly well here. The mallet like motifs are most stunning, beautifully processed and programmed for maximum bounce and swing. Although not hugely emotive the main break does deliver moments of melancholy before stripping down into a groovy finale. The companion piece 'Tche Nane' ups the tempo considerably but does carry a like minded ethos with its organic design and charming vocal edits. A serene break sits at the core of the piece before reaching loftier levels with luminous pads and timely percussive flurries.

This project is unique in that both tracks have been remixed by the same artist in Hot TuneiK. The Mexican producer has continued to excel with his deep, groovy brand of progressive music which is on full display here. His take on 'Maculele' stays quite true to the main themes while beefing up the low end and adding a more dramatic core. Spacious and rhythmic, it's a smooth ride until a moderately tense break shifts the mood into darker territory for a deadly drop. On 'Tche Nane' Hot keeps the tempo close to the original but dials down the theatrics for something much more fluid and rhythmic. From its rippling low end to weighty percussive complement this is definitely one for a progressive minded dance floor, and the subtle emotive pull which the main break has is quite lovely. Already a favourite amongst Djs pre-release expect to be hearing this one a lot over the winter months. It rounds out a lovely holiday release for Balkan Connection. Don't miss it.
