Musique de Lune Noire opens 2024's final month by welcoming Brisboys to the label for his debut EP. Hailing from Ireland, John Manning aka Brisboys has been a fixture of the progressive house underground for the better part of three decades. As a DJ first, John found his place amongst Northern Ireland's burgeoning nightlife, holding down residences, both radio and club, dating all the way back to the late nineties. After a chance meeting with fellow countryman Ciaran Duffy (RIP) in Australia in 2008, the duo formed the Brisboys alias, going on to release projects for Frequenza, Krafted Digital, One Of A Kind and the infamous Rising High. A four-year hiatus to focus on the Bemannte & Bruder alias shelved the Brisboys moniker until earlier this year, a time when John took the reins in solo capacity and subsequently rebooted his Brisbeats Records imprint to showcase his new solo productions. Now, continuing the Brisboys resurgence, the Irish producer debuts on Musique de Lune's Noire division with 'Sure Thing'.

Beginning with 'No Drama' Brisboys flexes that timeless progressive style for which he has become known. Complete with boundless energy and fluid rhythmic structures, it's an arpeggiated top line which eventually takes centerstage leading into the break. Melting down to a quiet calm, the introduction of a siren-like lead highlights the interlude, eventually anchored by warm key changing bass swells, before smoothly shifting energy into a nostalgic finale.

The companion and title piece 'Sure Thing' provides a deeper more swing heavy approach making is nice complement to the larger sounding 'No Drama'. Basslines sway and percussion flickers against a backdrop of shimmering atmospherics, as timely overlays and quirky stabs add depth and character leading into the break. The dreamy interlude is captivating to say the least, evoking emotion through tasteful modulation, before a wall of drums and percussion paves the way for a warm key changing final act. Already played by Gai Barone and charted by Kiss FM Australia for several weeks, it rounds out an excellent Musique de Lune Noire debut for Brisboys. Highly recommended.
