Air Horse One – Upside Down [Baikal Nomads]

Air Horse One bring their trippy style of downtempo to the Baikal Nomads record label, and their new EP, Upside Down, also includes remixes by Zuma Dionys, Catatonique, Oondza, Matija & Richard Elcox.

Baikal Nomads is a trailblazing organic house record label that releases styles ranging from downtempo to Afro house. Air Horse One had previously provided the record label with a remix, and this is their first time releasing original music on Baikal Nomads.

Both of the original tracks, “Upside Down” and “Flip” are dark and moody with building tension, distorted vocals and stripped back percussion. There is a hint of classic Claude VonStroke within the low-slung grooves of each track, but with a slow-mo twist.

In addition to the two original tracks, there is also a selection of remixes that put a different spin on things.

Zuma Dionys’ remix of “Upside Down” adds a new bassline and some earthy percussion to his organic house remix, which loosens the groove to create a more up-tempo version. It’s a great remix in the same style he has also released on the likes of Sol Selectas and Pipe & Pochet.

Oondza also remix “Upside Down,” and their version has a new top-line synth melody that complements the original’s dark intensity.

Catatonique remix “Flip,” and add some extra melody parts to the original’s quirky vocals and lurching bassline. Matija and Richard Elcox collaborate on a remix of “Flip,” which adds shuffling rhythms and some stabbing bass chords that give the track a jerking groove.
