Luke Santos – The Encoded Remixes [Musique de Lune]

Musique de Lune rounds out the month of October by welcoming Luke Santos back to the label for a special remix edition of 'I Am Everything'. As a DJ for well over two decades, Argentina born, Netherlands based artist Luke Santos has delighted crowds across the world with his far-reaching sound. Long-standing events such as ADE, WMC, The Love Parade and more have been recurring locations for Luke's exquisite taste and impeccable programming skills; while GU Music, Sudbeat and The Soundgarden have been global music brands to request his talents. A near decade-long career as a producer indicates his selective nature, with Cid Inc's Replug Records, Guy Mantzur's Plattenbank and Global Underground being the primary landing spots for his stunning creations. 2022 would see Luke return from a five-year hiatus via Musique de Lune Noire with the well-received album project 'I Am Everything'. A release which not only holds the distinction of being Noire's inaugural release, but received praise from Hernan Cattaneo and Nick Warren. Now, two years on from the release, Luke makes his debut on Musique de Lune's primary imprint with a special remix edition of 'I Am Everything', featuring Hernán Cattáneo & Marcelo Vasami, Kasper Koman & Alex O'Rion, Noraj Cue & Unders and Patrice Bäumel.

Occasional studio partners Hernan Cattaneo and Marcelo Vasami are first up putting a progressive spin on the breakbeat infused 'I Am Everything'. Rhythm and groove are always at a premium when these two veterans join forces, and the results are magnificent here once again. Smooth rolling grooves coupled with vibrant melodic top lines and a stunning array of wispy effects work amazingly well around Amber Long's deconstructed vocals, while an underbelly of heartfelt chord changes delivers the perfect amount of emotion to tip any dancefloor over the edge. Patrice Baumel is up next and fresh off a well-received remix for Words of Nio and Sudbeat Music. The revered Dutch artist always manages to capture the attention of a broad range of DJ and listeners with his borderless productions, a trait which is sorely missed in today's trend-driven state of electronic music. Here he reworks 'I Am Alien' in fine style, stripping the track right down for what results in a tough, trippy and meditative creation that seems nicely dialed for those 4AM moments.

Progressive House phenoms Kasper Koman and Alex O'Rion are up next with a massive rendition of 'I Am Human'. Already in the sets of Hernan Cattaneo, the Dutch duo combine their creative forces for a festival sized rework fuelled by striking stabs, hopeful overlays and relentless drive. A well-constructed break sits at the core of the track, one which finds a perfect balance of tension and emotion, before a finale of pulsating grooves and orbiting effects fully saturates your senses. Moving forward, frequent studio partners Noraj Cue and Unders deliver a poignant take on 'I Am The Messenger'. The Dutch duo arrive on the label following an organic remix for Akbal Music. Here however Noraj and Unders find a nice balance between the two styles, making great use of Zohar's enchanting vocals over an underbelly of punchy kick drums and rippling basslines, while Mediterranean musicality and a roller-coaster of chord changes co-ax for maximum emotional response. Rounding out the release is a bonus track of sorts, the Origins Rebuild version of 'I Am' which puts it's focus firmly on the dancefloor with it's punchy hypnotic pulse and retro synth swagger. A must for any true progressive house aficionado and a track which puts a resounding stamp on one of this year's best remix editions. Highly recommended.
