Solid Stone – Veritas [Phenomena]

Phenomena ushers in the new year with label boss Solid Stone presenting his 'Veritas' EP. 2019 proved to be a fruitful campaign for the Canadian artist. His unique take on melodic techno continued to earn support from the underground's premiere tastemakers in Adriatique, Tale Of Us and Solomun. Now following a remix for Mango Alley to begin 2020, Solid Stone lands back on his comfortable home of Phenomena with a two-track artist showcase.

In a year that saw the Montreal resident continue to evolve as an artist, 2020 gets underway with a similar sentiment. Following in the footsteps of December's 'Lotus' is the tough yet tranquil 'Veritas'. Following a DJ friendly intro of muted beats and buzzing electronics comes powerful kicks and percussive flashes. Tastefully trance-like, a solemn arp fades to prominence, creating hopeful moments before growling stabs pierce the air during a placid interlude. As anticipation builds clusters of noise and drums converge, sparking a tasteful re-entry and smooth yet exhilarating conclusion.

Rounding out the release and sitting as a fiery complement to its predecessor is 'Sparda'. Beginning with a chunky groove the piece moves with swing heavy momentum as layers of percussion and buzzing synths converge for an effervescent core. A spacey lead motif shifts the narrative further into cosmic territory as the breakdown begins to take shape. Ethereal yet tense, it's kaleidoscopic slow burn fully saturates your senses before a flurry of drums cues an astral finale. It caps off what is a promising start to the year for Solid Stone who continues to break creative boundaries with this excellent two track offering.
