Wally Lopez & Lonya – X-Groove [Beat Boutique]

DJ Zombi’s Beat Boutique returns showcasing a highly anticipated collaboration from Wally Lopez and Lonya. Hailing from Spain and Israel respectively the duo have enjoyed much success in their solo careers. Wally Lopez has been a fixture of the electronic underground for over two decades, having travelled the world showcasing his DJs skills while also landing releases on Beatfreak Recordings and Selador. Meanwhile, Lonya has enjoyed similar success with releases on Sudbeat Music and Parquet Recordings. Now coming together for a heavyweight collaboration, the duo present ‘X-Groove’ alongside remixes from Dousk and Spuri.

Both reknowned for their incredible dance floor dynamics, Wally and Lonya have crafted something special with ‘X-Groove’. There’s a buzzing energy from outset which quickly grabs a hold of you as a fiery groove and rhythmic pulses converge for the ultimate sonic wave. Quite pacey at 125BPM, it’s relentless drive is perfect for the heart of a peak time set and it’s mildly emotive break only adds to it’s fervor. This one is big!

First up on the remixes is Beat Boutique artist Dousk who returns to the label following his ‘Psychobabble’ single from August. The Greek producer has long been one of the most creative remixers in the underground and that sentiment holds true on his ‘X-Groove’ rendition as well. The dark energy which was so dominant throughout the original is well conveyed here, albeit in a slightly more indistinct context. The low end gets a makeover as well, with spacious, perfectly contoured mounds of bass driving the piece forward while adding mountains of swing in the process. A one minute plus break does wonders for dramatic tension, keeping the groove locked while buzzing energy mounts and a flurry of drums unite with waves of noise for a perfect re-entry.

The release concludes with Spuri returning to the label and providing the second and final interpretation of ‘X-Groove’. The Brazilian artist first appeared on the Israeli imprint in April of this year with his ‘Khaleesi’ EP. Also laying claim to releases on Sincopat and Sprout, Spuri now lands back on Beat Boutique with a stellar rendition of ‘X-Groove’. Tight and rhythmic from the outset it’s a bit more of a departure from the original which makes it an ideal companion. Metallic arps and a vibrant tonal theme provide electric moments as the main break commences, uniting in a moment of sonic harmony before a tension filled roll sparks a powerful drop. For those that like their production crisp, clean and detailed you’d be hard pressed to find something more pristine than this. Stellar stuff from Spuri which rounds out another sizable offering from DJ Zombi’s Beat Boutique. Highly Recommended.
