Chris Cargo's If You Wait returns welcoming Square One to the label for his debut single alongside remixes from Forerunners and Nishan Lee. Little info is available about the original artist but if this is in fact his/her first official release then this is definitely an artist electronic music fans should keep an eye on going forward. 'Oblong' sits comfortably in the creative space between progressive house and melodic techno with a slight lean towards the latter. It's tight compact groove is full of percussive intricacies and astral designs, but what's most appealing is a catchy lead and the tonal themes which accentuate it. Building nicely across the first act and elegantly peaking during the main break it perfectly sets up a groovy finale.

The first interpretation is provided by Forerunners who is best known for releases on Hernan Cattaneo's Sudbeat Music and Antrim's Or Two Strangers imprint. Now debuting on If You Wait the Arizona resident provides a dark and moody rendition of 'Oblong'. Setting the piece in motion is a bed of nicely sculpted beats and layers of percussive flurries. Indistinct vocals add an air of intrigue as the low end slowly springs to life. Fiery stabs and timely effects continue to build the narrative before a cavernous break perfectly sets up a heady finale.

Rounding out the release and providing the second and final interpretation of 'Oblong' is one of Sri Lanka's finest Nishan Lee. Asymmetric Recordings, Juicebox Music, Movement Recordings and Strange Town Recordings have played host to Nishan's unique take on progressive music, and he now makes his If You Wait debut in style with a great remix. The focus here is on rhythm, groove and attention to detail. Void of any large elements it's layers of intricate percussion, timely shifts in atmosphere and a chugging rhythmic core which quickly suck you in. The break is moderately tense but it's achieved with very little fanfare, rather through gaseous sweeps and a meditative backdrop which perfectly shifts energy into a heady finale. A great complement to the previous two versions and a perfect way to round out another on the money release from Chris Cargo's If You Wait. Don't miss it.
