Sinan Arsan – Ebonise [Soundteller Records]

Deersky's Soundteller Records welcomes Sinan Arsan to the label for his debut single 'Ebonise'. Based in Ankara, the Turkish artist first came to out attention late last year with a release on Stellar Fountain's Astrowave division. Subsequent offerings on Big Bells, Droid9 South America, Future Avenue and Mistique Music have made for a great 2020 thus far. Now following a contribution to Transensations 'Transenses II' collection, Sinan lands on Soundteller with a new single alongside remixes from Kenan Savrun and Nacres.

Already known for his trippy progressive sound, Sinan continues to explore that ethos here with 'Ebonise'. Groovy and atmospheric in equal measure, it's charged foundation and glassy clusters immediately grab your attention. Spacey arps and driving percussion add momentum across the first act, as vocal wails bring a spiritual context coming into the break. The centrepiece only enhances the meditative qualities of the track, building tension through subtle modulation and bassy swells, before percussive rides spark a huge drop and exhilarating final act.

Fellow countryman Kenan Savrun returns to Soundteller and provides the first remix. Fresh off releases for Another Life Music and Movement Recordings, the Ankara resident goes all out with a fiery peak time interpretation that really delivers. Layered beats, muscular basslines and a vortex of tripped out audio make this a production to get truly lost in. There are few tracks that capture the magic of what progressive music was nearly 20 years ago but this does that quite successfully. Think John Digweed Delta Heavy Essential Mix and this is not far off from what was resonating so strongly at the time. Massive remix from Kenan.

Rounding out the release and completing this all Turkish affair is Nacres who provides the second and final interpretation. Having appeared on the label's Vibrant Vibeland #10 collection in May of this year, Nacres has also found a home on Bonzai Records, Deepersense Music and Massive Harmony Records. Now returning to Soundteller for his first remix, Nacres puts his own unique twist on 'Ebonise'. Sitting as a lovely complement to the original the Istanbul resident takes the edge off just a touch for a floaty yet still incredibly groovy interpretation. Meandering synths add just the right amount of tension as they blanket the chugging rhythms and effervescent textures, before getting washed away into a tranquil break and percussive driven finale. A lovely interpretation from Nacres which caps off this exciting release from Soundteller Records, proving that progressive music is still flourishing in Turkey. Highly recommended.
