Sebastian Busto – Transparencies EP [Magician On Duty]

Sebastian Busto debuts on Magician On Duty with a four track showcase alongside remixes from Adrien(RO) and Andrew Case. Known for exploring both the deeper and more progressive spectrum's of house the Buenos Aires resident has long been a favourite of Hernan Cattaneo and Nick Warren, having appeared in the sets of the legendary DJs on multiple occasions. The Argentinean artist also lays claim to an impressive discography, highlighted by releases on Sudbeat Music and The Soundgarden. Now making his much anticipated Magician On Duty debut, Sebastian presents his ‘Transparencies’ EP.

Beginning with the title cut Sebastian opens up our hearts with a spacious, emotive slice of organic house. Exotic drums and poignant tones sit a top a laid back, chunky groove for a deeply moving seven minute journey. This segues nicely into 'Awakenings' which has been performing quite well with DJs pre-release. The tempo and vibe come up just a touch here but the deep, dreamy ethos remains intact. Beautiful pad work, indistinct vocals and wispy effects highlight the main break which ultimately sits at the emotional core of the piece. 'Synchrony' meanwhile showcases beefier beats and more stellar drum work but it's the cascading piano themes and childlike vocal elements which prove to be the most striking here. The drop is dead gorgeous, coming out of a redolent break with just the right amount of pop to get a dance floor moving without taking away from the impassioned vibe of the track. The fourth and final original 'Ferguson' is perhaps the most reflective and musically rich of the four. The organic grain is a lovely touch, sitting in contrast to ghostly vocal elements and a luminous tonal theme, all while melding perfectly with frayed instrumentation and broken beats before a warm rush initiates the road home.

The lone interpretation of 'Awakenings' is provided by Adrien who returns to the label for his fourth appearance. The Romanian artist has become a core part of the Magician On Duty roster while also laying claim to a release on Akbal Music. Much loved for the creativity and emotive qualities in his music Adrien's remix of 'Awakenings' comes up roses once again. Deep, soulful and tastefully poignant it's a slightly less distinct take on the original while still retaining the emotive shades through clever storyboarding and melodic minimalism.

Rounding out the release is Andrew Case who provides the lone interpretation of 'Synchrony'. The Romanian artist is perhaps best know for his releases on Dynamica, Nie Wieder Schlafen and Stellar Fountain where his deep, organic sound has flourished. Now presenting his first production of 2019, Andrew turns in a gorgeous rendition of 'Synchrony'. The main themes translate beautifully across a sleeker more dulcet framework while the piano cascades and childhood vocals highlight the break. It caps off another expansive collection of Music from Magician On Duty, one where Sebastian Busto continues to explores deeper blueprints with great success. Highly recommended.
