Robert R. Hardy - We All Heart [ICONYC]

The latest from John Johnson's ICONYC imprint welcomes Robert R. Hardy back to the label for a brand new single. The Hungarian artist made his debut on the US imprint all the way back in December of 2014 with 'Chicago Sunrise' which was widely regarded as his best ever work at the time. Now looking to make a new mark Robert presents his latest single entitled 'We All Heart' alongside remixes from Joal, Diogo Ribeiro and Artem Kalalb.

Over the last three years Robert's music has certainly gotten more progressive overall but he delivers a creation here which blurs the lines between deep house and techno. The rolling chunky grooves you normally associate with Robert are gone and a more modern framework is in place with tough, punchy beats and neatly tailored percussion. The magic lies in the harmonic narrative though, fluid and unpredictable it's an emotional rollercoaster if you will and delivered with a subtly that will have you coming back for more. Likely my favourite production of Robert's to date.

Three impressive remixes accompany the original beginning with Joal who makes his label debut. Hailing from Portugal and known for releases on Flow Vinyl and Selador Joal delivers a super interpretation shifting the mood into something much more esoteric and timeless. Muted tones and a less distinct take on the harmonic elements give the mix great space. Rhythmically it's brilliant, particularly during the third act with a bevy of acid-like warbles, offset hits and shifty harmonies making for a great finale. Definitely my favourite version on the release.

The second interpretation is provided by Diogo Ribeiro who is making his first appearance on the label. Hailing from Portugal and heading up the 24 Hours Records imprint, Diogo also owns releases on Beat Boutique, Flow Vinyl and Movement Recordings. For his 'We All Heart' interpretation Diogo brings more of a deep house vibe to the track with thick slabs of bass and airy atmospheres setting a dramatic tone. Indistinct vocals work wonders during the break, building tension before a mean third act seals it's brilliance.

The release concludes with ICONYC label artist Artem Kalalb making his fourth appearance following releases on Particles and Varona. The Russian producer closes the release out with a groovy rendition that's perfect for a late night dance floor. This is one of those tracks you just get locked in on the groove and let it take you for a ride. Quite meditative with phasing synths and dubbed out tones it finishes the release off on a strong note, adding further depth and variety. Definitely one of ICONYC's most diverse and also impressive releases of the year. Highly Recommended.
