Ricardo Piedra – Pallas Athene [Stellar Fountain]

Ricardo Piedra returns to Stellar Fountain with a new single alongside remixes from NOIYSE PROJECT and Tomek. The Hungarian artist has found a comfortable home on the long standing Hungarian imprint with this being his sixth appearance since making his debut in July of 2017. Now following releases for LuPS Records and Massive Harmony Records, Ricardo returns to Stellar Fountain with the devilish sounding 'Pallas Athene'. Rippling bass tones marry dulcet beats for a wonderful foundation, before arcane sweeps and ghostly vocal pads blanket the groove. Bubbly arps are beautifully interwoven throughout the eight minute journey, ultimately leading to an emotive centrepiece which perfectly sets up a groovy drop and tense finale.

Sri Lankan stars NOIYSE PROJECT return to the label and provide the first interpretation. The darker undertone from the original is well maintained here while the duo's uncanny knack for peak time percussive cadence shines. Crunchy rhythms make for a robust core while the haunting themes from the original get delicately worked in amidst a maze of effects and neatly programmed drums. Perhaps most impactful is the beginning of the third act, perfectly setup by a heartfelt, trance inspired break; it’s meaty drop comes off quite powerful and ultimately seals a strong finale.

Rounding out the release and providing the second and finale interpretation is Tomek who returns to the label for his ninth appearance. Sitting as a lovely complement to the original the Hungarian artist adds a more dramatic undercurrent with a pulsating low end and buzzing synths. The icy pads work well here, adding a unique contrast to the powerful low end, delivering just the right amount of tension as they fade in and out of the framework. Emotive chord changes then bend the narrative further, before the main arp completes this classic progressive gem. A gorgeous rendition from Tomek which caps off an excellent offering from Stellar Fountain once again. Don't miss it.
