Paul Kardos and Ivan Nikusev land on Balkan Connection for their first collaboration entitled ‘Morning Sun’. Hailing from Hungary and Macedonia respectively, the duo have enjoyed much success in their solo careers with Paul showcasing his music on Clubsonica Records, Perspectives Digital and Soundteller Records, while Ivan heads up the OLD SQL Recordings imprint and also owns a healthy discography with releases on Bonzai Progressive, Mistique Music and Stripped Digital. Now coming together for the first time, the duo present the much anticipated ‘Morning Sun’ alongside remixes from GMJ & Matter and Andrea Cassino.

Coming from a pure progressive ethos ‘Morning Sun’ immediately resonates on a deep, emotional level. A warm, fluid bassline sits at the foundation while rolling rhythms and detailed percussion add a hip swinging cadence. Gentle chord stabs and swoon worthy melodies soon engulf the framework, perfectly setting up a blissful break that is sure to capture the imagination of your dance floor.

Balkan Connection always assembles great remixer teams but they’ve really brought in the big guns on this one with GMJ & Matter leading the way. The Aussie duo are two of the most beloved names in the progressive scene and their recent collaborative efforts have ended up on Anjunadeep and Proton Music. It’s hard to imagine these two progressive music veterans not delivering something magical and they certainly do here once again. The emotional integrity of the original is well maintained but conveyed a sleeker more refined framework. Warm, dreamy overlays captivate across the first act and thus you’re effortlessly taken away into a melodic wonderland. Subtle yet powerful, the blissful theme plays off smooth chord changes and a bulbous low end for a string of magic moments, the most poignant of which makes for a stunning main break, perfectly setting up a tastefully euphoric final act.

The release concludes with Andrea Cassino providing the second and final remix. The Italian born, Argentina based artist continues to be one of the most sought after talents in progressive music with a carefully managed discography highlighted by releases on ICONYC, Proton Music, Soundteller Records and Hernan Cattaneo’s Sudbeat Music. For his 'Morning Sun' interpretation Andrea complements the previous two versions quite well with a mix that relies heavily on rhythm and groove as opposed to melodies and atmosphere. Although it's a dubbier take that's not to say it doesn't resonate on an emotional level as tasteful arps and gaseous effects make for a gentle vortex of musical colour. Like most of Andrea's productions it's the hypnotic disposition of the piece which makes it such a joy to listen to. For most artists a mix that nears the ten minute mark would really drag but with Andrea it hardly seems long enough. A brilliant remix which caps off one of Balkan Connection's strongest releases of the year. Highly Recommended.
