Monojoke – Liquid Sky [Or Two Strangers]

The latest release on Antrim’s Or Two Strangers imprint welcomes Monojoke to the label for his debut EP. The Polish artist lays claim to releases on John OO Fleming’s JOOF Recordings, Movement Recordings and Sound Avenue, while also gaining considerable acclaim for his collaborative project Fluente, in conjunction with fellow countryman Tuxedo. Together the duo have showcased their work on Hernan Cattaneo’s Sudbeat Music, Nick Warren’s The Soundgarden and Hot Since 82’s Knee Deep In Sound. Now following a solo EP for Mirabilis Records, Monojoke makes his Or Two Strangers debut with ‘Liquid Sky’.

Made up of three tracks it’s the electric qualities of the title cut which gets the EP underway. Rhythmically charged, it’s chunky low end, detailed percussion and buzzing designs unite for a euphoric blend of melody and colour. A storyboard of effervescent synths, harmonic overlays and fragmented effects make for a cosmic first act. As the main break commences the narrative shifts as an epic top line adds further fuel to the melodic fire, before timely modulation and a wave of beautiful noise sparks a powerful drop.

Continuing the groovy, melodic ethos of the EP is the second selection ‘Purple Days’. Beautifully constructed, its buoyant core is adorned with metallic percussion and fluid rhythms. Evocative in nature, it’s a creation which builds methodically, relying on harmonic resonance, pixie-like melodies and astral designs, ultimately leading to a brief but joyful theme to further saturate your pleasure centers.

Diversifying his portfolio further the release concludes the deeper sounds of ‘Zodiac of Capella’. Beginning with chunky bass stabs and ghostly atmospheres, it’s effortless cadence flows while layers of drums and cascading themes unite in a lush organic space. Surreal and dream like, tonal creativities and fragmented sonics trail across the framework, smoothly shifting energy into an emotive interlude. Complete with reflective qualities it’s a heartfelt finale to a superb collection of music from Monojoke. One of boundless creativity and profound musicality, continuing to build on an already impressive portfolio of music for the much loved Polish artist.
