Michael & Levan and Stiven Rivic return to John Johnson’s ICONYC with a new single entitled ‘Inborn Voices’. Having delivered three singles and a remix, the much loved trio have become one of the US label’s core artists since it’s rebrand in 2016. Having most recently remixed Roger Martinez’s ‘Work’ in March of last year, Michael, Levan and Stiven now return to ICONYC alongside remixes from Barry Jamieson & Charlie May, Martin Roth and Las Von.

Known for being adept at a variety of styles under the progressive umbrella, Micheal, Levan and Stiven craft a deep, hypnotic beauty with ‘Inborn Voices’. Aptly titled, one of it’s primary motifs are a childlike wails which run through a sleek, percussive and abundantly powerful framework. Dark stabs add grit while astral sweeps elevate the mood further into cosmic territory. The narrative shifts as the main break takes shape, melting down into creamy tones before effortlessly transferring energy into a purring finale.

A stunning selection of remixes is kicked off by Barry Jamieson and Charlie May who have had a hand in some of electronic music’s most revered tracks. From engineering some of Sasha’s career defining productions to remixing The Chemical Brothers, Depeche Mode, Orbital, Madonna, New Order, Seal and more, Barry and Charlie have been two of the most transcendent figures in the evolution of electronic music. Now coming together for the first time since in several years the duo craft an exquisite take on ‘Inborn Voices’. Detail and character are at a premium here with a low slung groove housing a wealth of unique sonic artifacts and crunchy rhythmic structures. The main themes translate beautifully throughout and it’s tastefully twisted moments continue to delight after several plays. It’s a refreshing listen and perhaps a reminder of what is missing in so much of today’s rapidly consumed Beatport chart hits.

The second interpretation of ‘Inborn Voices’ is provided by Martin Roth who makes his ICONYC debut here. It’s been a storied career for the German artist since first appearing over a decade ago. The Frankfurt born, Berlin based producer quickly became a mainstay of the Anjunadeep roster, where he has delivered several EPs and remixes since his first appearance in 2010. Now following a remix for Jerome Isma-Ae & Alastor to begin the year, Martin makes his ICONYC debut with a classy rendition of ‘Inborn Voices’. Deep and rolling, yet spacious and modern, its robust rhythmic core and tasteful electronics create an exuberant air across the first act. Atmospheric storyboarding adds hopeful anticipation and a touch of emotion, perfectly foreshadowing a tranquil yet spiritually uplifting main break before segueing nicely into a smooth finale.

The release concludes with ICONYC mainstay Las Von who makes his fifth appearance. The Canadian artist has quickly grown into one of his country’s top progressive house talents and also lays claim to releases on Plaisirs Sonores Records and Somatic Records. Now fresh off a remix for Mango Alley he returns to ICONYC with a superb rendition of 'Inborn Voices'. There's a tasteful elegance about this one, smooth and well executed, it's soulful instrumentation is perhaps it's strongest suit, perfectly playing off the vocal elements during the break and smoothly transitioning into a swoon worthy finale. A classy remix from Las Von which will stand the test of time very well. It rounds out a massive return to ICONYC for Michael, Levan and Stiven who continue to be one of the progressive scene's most highly touted production teams. Highly recommended.
