Luke Santos & Arturo Hevia – Nymphlight Playground [Asymmetric Recordings]

Lonya's Asymmetric Recordings returns this week with a brand new collaborative single from Luke Santos & Arturo Hevia. Hailing from the Netherlands and Chile respectively this is a first time collaboration from the duo following solo efforts for GU Music and Stellar Fountain. Now making their debut on Asymmetric Luke and Arturo present 'Nymphlight Playground' alongside remixes from Marcelo Vasami and Futur-E.

The original mix leads the release off with a sparse, musical intro set against broken beats and tantalizing synths. Masterfully crafted, the piece builds effortlessly with delicate motifs, phasing atmospheres and frayed percussion. It leads nicely into a cinematic break which perfectly sets up a third act full of indistinct vocals and cosmic motifs. Reflective and poignant in equal measure it makes for a lovely debut collaboration from Luke and Arturo which leads us to ask, will we hear more?

Always bringing the best talent to Asymmetric, label boss Lonya calls upon two of the underground's finest in Marcelo Vasami and Futur-E to contribute their own interpretations. Beginning with the long standing veteran of the Argentinean scene Marcelo Vasami who makes his second appearance following a remix of 'Eternal' by Jorgio Kioris from February of this year. Marcelo has a real knack for crafting deep, groovy productions that work amazingly well on the dance floor but also make for captivating home listening. His aptly coined 'Flutes' interpretation of 'Nymphlight Playground' is exactly that with vibrant percussive elements and a bouncy cadence that's perfectly dialled for club play. The vocal elements play nicely in the storyboard, setting up an emotive middle section with spiralling motfis and clever edits. Likely one of Marcelo's most heartfelt productions to date and with support already in from Hernan Cattaneo and Nick Warren you know it's one not to miss.

The release concludes with Futur-E who is making his second appearance on the label following his 'Rihea' EP from June of this year. The Greek artist owns an impressive discography which includes releases on Cinematique, MNL and Traum. Quite diverse, Futur-E is adept at a variety of stylistic blueprints from melodic techno to progressive house. Of late we've seen more a timeless melodic touch in his work and that's exactly what we get on his 'Nymphlight Playground' remix. Quite charming and undeniably smooth, it's a piece built on tough beats and strong tonal themes, with the vocals finding a unique place, while the melodic elements get snipped into something much more rhythmic. A classy rework from Futur-E which makes for a very well rounded and overall excellent release for Lonya's Asymmetric Recordings. Highly Recommended.
