Kamilo Sanclemente & Giovanny Aparicio – Vhanir EP [Manual Music]

Perennial favourite Kamilo Sanclemente lands back on Paul Hazendonk's Manual Music alongside Giovanny Aparicio for new three track EP. The Colombian artist has found a comfortable home on the Dutch imprint, having appeared three times previously as well as notching four outings on affiliate imprint MNL. Now making a welcome return to Manual Music, Kamilo teams up with Giovanny Aparicio for a three track EP entitled 'Vhanir'.

Beginning with the title selection you get a feel for the ethos of the EP which is percussive, progressive minded funk. This is remarkably groovy with a nicely contoured low end providing the foundation for a maze of drums and rolling rhythms. Although relatively indistinct, the musical theme is impactful, fragmented and flowing through some tastefully twisted modulation, before ultimately peaking during a well crafted break.

The tempo shifts down a touch on 'Paper Moon' but comes in no less funky or engaging. A male vocal ultimately carries the track along with tightly wound arps and acid-like stabs, the latter of which adds remarkably to it's hip swinging nature.

Rounding out the release is the peak time flavoured 'Brotherhood'. This is likely the sound Kamilo is most loved for and he continues to reinvent his main room prowess on each one. The percussive elements are amazingly well tuned, sitting perfectly atop a surging low end and catchy melodic motifs. Ghostly vocal fragments work wonders in adding vibe and space while a mallet-like line adds colour and musicality without ever getting too overt. Reflective in tone it makes for the perfect way to cap off this well rounded EP for Kamilo, Giovanny and Manual Music. Highly recommended.
