Hermanez & Eran Aviner – Aria [EDGE]

EDGE begins their 2020 journey with a much-anticipated collaboration from Hermanez and Eran Aviner. Hailing from Belgium and making his label debut is Hermanez. Initially known for his timeless, tech-soul productions on Mobilee Records, Noir Music and Suara, the Genk resident has enjoyed a career renaissance in recent years, remodelling his sound with deeper, more musical and wonderfully organic leanings. It’s a shift that has landed him releases on the movement’s premiere imprints, most notably All Day I Dream, Lost & Found, Shanti Radio Moscow and TRYBESof. Also laying claim to an impressive discography is EDGE co-founder Eran Aviner. The Belgian artist has showcased his music on Hernan Cattaneo’s Sudbeat Music and Guy Mantzur’s Plattenbank Records, while also being regarded as one of his country’s most astute DJs. Having worked together once previously on a chart topping remix for Sound Avenue, Hermanez and Eran now present their debut EP via EDGE entitled ‘Aria’.

Beginning what promises to be a fruitful year for both artists are the pure progressive sensibilities of ‘Aria’. Captivating from the start, it’s perfectly sculpted beats are warm and powerful, anchoring what is a rippling, free flowing foundation. Crafted with precision and care, layers of hypnotic percussion are blanketed with textural drifts, ghostly pads and fragmented melodies. Intrigue peaks as the main break unfolds, with hazy harmonic concepts and metallic melodies uniting for an exhilarating crescendo, before ushering in a groovy drop and hypnotic finale.

The journey continues with the reflective moods of ‘Storyteller’. Nicely tied to the ethos of the EP, Hermanez and Eran marry haunting vocal refrains with meditative rhythms and tranquil textures. It’s a spiritual and highly engaging storyboard, perhaps the EP’s most impassioned in fact, a creation for the road home and no doubt a highly memorable selection for your dance floor.

The release is capped off in fine fashion with the chunky vibes of ‘First Touch’. Immediately compelling, it’s shapely bass tones and dynamic percussion play off a robust rhythmic core, making for a smooth, hip swinging groove. Its musical appeal grows subtly, as pixie-like motifs and luminous tones add an emotive slant to what is an already magical storyboard. Expertly timed, it’s chugging energy melts down into a break of effervescent lines and shifty harmonics, building into a wall of melodic colour, before getting washed away in a rush of beats and percussion for a charming third movement. Groovy and emotive in equal measure, it rounds out what is an exceptional collection of music from Hermanez and Eran, one which sees the duo’s creative synergy continue to grow.
