GMJ & Matter – To the Stars (BC Edition) [Balkan Connection]

GMJ & Matter's 'To the Stars' gets re-imagined by Tripswitch and Praveen Achary for the latest installment of Balkan Connection's BC Edition. Originally released just over a year ago via Proton Music as part of the Aussie duo's 'Interscope' EP, the track now sits atop Matter's Beatport Best Sellers while occupying the fourth position in GMJ's. Something special always seems to happen when these two get together in the studio and now we have two of genre's finest remaking the track in Tripswitch and Praveen Achary.

UK artist Nick Brennan aka Tripswitch has a rich history in electronic music. His fifteen year career has been highlighted by appearances on Hernan Cattaneo’s Sudbeat Music, Nick Warren’s The Soundgarden and his own onedotsixtwo imprint. His crossover style has also found a home on leading European label Iboga Records where he has appeared twenty times. Now fresh off a remix for Lowbit Records, Nick makes his Balkan Connection debut with a superb take on 'To The Stars'. The UK artist always brings a great energy to every remix project and such is the case here with the smoother more fluid original getting transformed into a chunky, buoyant and wonderfully percussive creation. Vocal fragments resonate beautifully in the mix as melodic clusters and sweeping noise trail through the framework. The strength of it's rhythm and groove really hits you coming out of the break, perfectly set up by a bed of emotive bass and atmospheric drawl.

Rounding out the release and returning to the label for his fifth appearance is Praveen Achary. The Indian artist and Juicebox Music label boss has continued to be one of if not the primary figures in his country's burgeoning progressive house underground. Meticulous in process and deliberative in choice, each of Praveen's productions are met with much anticipation. Now the Bangalore resident embarks on the daunting task of remixing two of Australia's finest. Taking a cue from the original while adding a heavier, more peak time state of mind, the Indian artist carves out a dynamic groove adorned with astral effects, fiery percussion and fresh rhythmic themes. Gentle overlays do wonders to take the edge off leading into the break, which expands the emotional narrative quite nicely. Melodic yet tense, the one minute centrepiece is a sensory delight, with its tactful build and effervescent swells uniting in a college of melodious colour, before ultimately sparking a striking re-entry. A massive remix from the Juicebox Music boss and a great way to round out another on the money BC Edition for Balkan Connection. Highly recommended.
