Gaston Ponte – Saved [Soundteller Records]

Fast rising Gaston Ponte makes his return to Deersky’s Soundteller Records this week with ‘Saved’. Hailing from the progressive house hotbed of Buenos Aires, the Argentinean artist first appeared on the Polish imprint in November of last year with his ‘Black Sound’ EP. A remix of Miraculum’s ‘Intimacy’ soon followed in March of this year while the summer has been highlighted by an EP on the surging Auditen Music imprint. Now following a remix for Stellar Fountain Gaston finds his way back to Soundteller for the much anticipated follow up to ‘Black Sound’.

Comprised of three tracks it’s the vibrant and melodic 'June' which gets the EP underway. The character is rich and warm from the outset as tepid yet punchy beats and a rolling groove set the piece in motion. The musical elements which slowly fade to prominence are definitely the highlight here, both timeless and emotive, a catchy top line melds with fuzzy swells for the ultimate sonic marriage. Definitely one for a feel good moment in your sets. The title selection 'Saved' is a touch groovier with less reliance on bigger melodic themes and a focus on hooky rhythms, which play nicely through the first act. The main break drifts into cinematic territory with expansive synths evolving beautifully before an understated drop keeps things cool and classy. The release concludes with 'The Terrace' which follows suit with a classic, chuggy groove and galloping rhythmic elements. It's old school progressive at its finest without overblown melodic themes but rather a reliance on flow and vibe. The second act might be the most emotive moment on the EP which says a lot as its brief and relatively indistinct thematically but there's something very hopeful and reflective locked in there which makes it perfect for the road home, so to speak. Gaston Ponte has no doubt found a place amongst the progressive scenes rising talents and this EP just adds another notch to his expanding profile. A great EP from the Argentine and another solid signing for Deersky and Soundteller Records. Don't miss it.
