Martin Gardoqui & Franco Tejedor land on Balkan Connection this week with ‘Flat Earth’. The Argentinean duo have been frequent studio partners since debuting in 2015 on Balkan Connection South America. Their first Balkan Connection appearance came in July of 2017 when the duo remixed Sebastian Busto’s ‘Roots’. Now following releases on BC2 and Nube Music the duo return to Balkan Connection for their first EP alongside remixes from Nicholas Van Orton and EANP.

The title track leads the release off with a deep, foreboding vibe that immediately grabs your attention. It’s cavernous groove is ominous to say the least and as an array of dark synths and fiery percussion surround the framework the anticipatory vibe only grows. The main break while subtle does advance the narrative with an indistinct tonal theme but it’s ultimately the atmospheric tension and icy pads which deliver the most drama, nicely transferring energy into a classy drop. The companion piece ‘Ancestral Pyramids’ follows suit with a gloomy, hypnotic resonance. Tough and driving at the outset the piece eventually shifts gears with a two minute plus centrepiece. A journey into meditative motifs, dynamic drum fills and ethereal tones, it sits at the heart of piece and ultimately provides all the cinematic-style tension you could ever want.

The remixes are provided by some of Argentina’s finest progressive artists in Nicholas Van Orton and EANP. First up BCSA boss Nicholas Van Orton reworks ‘Flat Earth’ into a Knight Rider-esque slice of deep hypno prog. This is a remarkable use of the parts and with a sizable build out of the break most likely one of Nicholas’ biggest remixes all year. Supremely groovy and with an icy flair it’s definitely one to light up your dance floor.

The release concludes with EANP who have been one of the most hotly tipped duos of the year in progressive music. Their moniker has taken off with massive support from Hernan Cattaneo along with a long line of Beatport chart successes. Their ‘Ancestral Pyramids’ interpretation looks set for a similar fate and closes the release out on a strong note. Dark yet celestial, the contrast between the tough, rugged low end and the heavenly topline is quite dramatic. It makes for an amazing sense of space and a myriad of emotions throughout. Definitely a heady production and one for a true progressive house connoisseur. Amazing remix from EANP which caps off a massive release from Balkan Connection. Highly recommended.
