Felipe Michan – Cadmo [Soundteller Records]

Felipe Michan debuts on Deersky's Soundteller Records this week with a new EP. Hailing from Buenos Aires, the Argentinean artist first appeared on the progressive scene in August of 2015 with a contribution to Hydrogen's 'Contemporary Elements | Ibiza' collection. Subsequent appearances on Michael A's Genesis Music, ICONYC, SoulArt Recordings and Electronic Tree solidified his place amongst Argentina's top up and coming talent. Now making his first appearance on Soundteller, Filipe presents his most anticipated work to date in 'Cadmo'.

It's always nice to see genres melding together in perfect cohesion and that's exactly what we get on the title track. Progressive minded from the outset yet adorned with afro drums and cross cultural chants, it's crossover appeal undeniable. Crunchy arps and astral effects make for a fluid and mildly cosmic storyboard, building subtly across its eight minute journey and peaking with a swirling apex as the final break concludes.

The second selection 'Semele' ups the energy considerably with a full, rolling groove and firing electronics. The peak time appeal is strong here as it's breaks down to a flurry of claps before a third act of smooth chord changes and a quirky lead theme takes you home.

Rounding out the release is 'Tebana' which much like 'Cadmo' does have some afro leanings. It's shuffling percussion is highlighted by lively bongos and timely fills, nicely building anticipation towards an epic break of tonal creativities and buzzing noise. A definite dance floor burner and a perfect way to round out this creative collection from Filipe Michan, who is yet another great addition to the Soundteller Records roster. Highly Recommended.
