Federico Monachesi – Unusual Suspects [Soundteller Records]

Federico Monachesi makes a welcome return to Deersky’s Soundteller Records this week with a new single. The Argentinean artist last appeared on the Polish imprint in September of last year with his well received ‘This Is Not Happening’ single. Now following a release for Hungary’s SoulArt Recordings, Federico returns to Soundteller with ‘Unusual Suspects’ alongside remixes from Dimuth K and Berni Turletti.

Federico has garnered a huge following in the progressive underground for his melodic creations. Never one to present the most obvious themes or ideas he relies on musical subtleties to deliver a powerful message. Such is the case with ‘Unusual Suspects’ which boasts a musical almost melancholic sounding motif that develops wonderfully over the break. Add to that a big, perfectly sculpted groove along with timely rhythmic shifts and you’ve got a stunning dance floor creation.

The two remixes on the project are likely two of the hottest up and coming names in progressive music right now. Dimuth K is no doubt set for big things and continues trending up with a great interpretation of ‘Unusual Suspects’. Some artists just have a certain feel or vibe in their grooves and Dimuth is definitely one of those. The rhythmic qualities are incredibly addictive and would sound right at home in the sets of Hernan Cattaneo or Nick Warren. Much like the original this never goes too big, rather relying on cadence and chord stabs to generate a powerful finale.

The release concludes with Berni Turletti who returns to the label for his second appearance. The Argentinean artist is fresh off releases on Nick Warren’s Hope Recordings and Antrim’s Or Two Strangers imprint, both of which were well received by the top tier progressive DJs. Not slowing down Berni nails another great interpretation here to round the release out in style. A very pure sounding piece which is a tad busier than the previous two versions, relying on percussive flurries and gorgeous harmonics to deliver a very emotive message. A lovely interpretation from Berni and another well constructed release from Deersky and Soundteller Records. Highly Recommended.
