With a hugely impressive catalogue of releases on the likes of Cocoon, Truesoul, Turbo Recordings and his very own FORM Music (to name a few), legendary French techno producer POPOF has the production credentials and career discography to rival the very best in the business. Fresh off the back of his huge Insomnia EP which he released in September alongside fellow compatriot Space 92, the prolific Parisian producer now readies his next musical offering with the announcement of his epic two-part Revival EP.

Out now via Kneaded Pains, POPOF's Revival EP marks the Frenchman's inaugural foray on Dense & Pika's esteemed imprint, as he pulls out all the stops to deliver a memorable label debut. We caught up with him from his home in Paris to find out more.

Hi Alex, and welcome! It's great to have you with us. How have you been doing?

Hi there, thank you! I'm great, and supercharged with energy. Life is good.

What's it like to be back on the road and playing gigs after all this time locked up at home?

You cannot believe how happy I am to be performing again. Seeing people in the flesh, and seeing especially the crowds dancing, is a feeling I was deeply missing. Lockdown was hard on me.

You've got quite an exciting bit of news to share with the release of your new EP 'Revival' on Kneaded Pains. Can you talk to us about the release and the concept behind it?

Absolutely! Revival is out and I'm thrilled. It actually began with me finding some really old music parts lying around in my computer. These rave-ish bits were composed ten years ago and I ended up not using them. So, when I recently stumbled upon them, I thought it would be fun to rework them and add some gabber-ish vibes. Revival is literally about reviving old things and giving them a second life.

This is your debut release on Kneaded Pains. How did you connect with Dense & Pika in the first instance?

I'm fan of theirs, and they like what I do so it happened quite naturally!

We absolutely loved your recent release with Space 92 on your label FORM Music (FORM099). Do you have anything special lined up for the landmark 100th release later this year?

Thank you so much, I really appreciate your input. Space 92 is such a sweet and talented guy, and we had tons of fun working on this one. But yeah, FORM100 is going to be extra special because my classic track "Serenity" is going to be remixed by very talented people.... I'll keep you posted ;))

100 releases is a huge achievement and an incredible milestone for an independent label. Are there any particular moments or records that really stand out to you over the past ten years of FORM?

Honestly there are too many of them for me to list! From "Serenity" ten years ago to our latest stuff, there were so many fantastic releases in between by great artists like Julian Jeweil, Umek and so many more.

Looking ahead, what does the future hold for FORM over the next years?

More great releases, more great parties with the Form Music family, perhaps bigger events ... Who knows, anything is possible.

What else can we expect from POPOF for the rest of 2021 and beyond? What new projects are you looking forward to?

I've been working on several projects, collaborations and remixes (all this energy I stashed during Covid lockdown haha). I've got an upcoming release on American label Desert Hearts, I'm starting work on my new album because it's been a while since the last one on Hot Creations and I'm also getting ready for a South America tour next month. Can't wait!

Thank you for your time Alex. We wish you all the best for the future!

Thank you very much for having me guys. All the best to you too!
