False Intentions – Red Waters [Deepwibe Underground]

Deepwibe Underground continues to push quality progressive music with a new EP from False Intentions. Residing in Liverpool, the UK artist first appeared on the scene in March of this year with a release on Miaw. Subsequent outings for Crossworld Music and Beech Recordings have made for a great start to False Intentions career. Now making the jump to one of Russia’s finest progressive house imprints, the UK artist presents his ‘Red Waters’ EP.

The title track leads the release off with a smooth, hypnotic quality that’s immediately inviting. A warm, fluid groove sits at the foundation while percussive clusters and icy pads surround the framework. Heartfelt chord changes combined with tasteful modulation advance the narrative into emotive territory, before stripping down into a cinematic style break, complete with astal effects and a classy drop. Already finding favour with Guy J you know this is one not to miss.

The second and final selection ‘Reflection’ sits in a similar sonic space with the same lovely low end manipulation and subtle storyboarding. The dramatic sensibilities are a touch more evident here with anticipatory vibes all throughout the first act, eventually leading to a massively compelling break with mysterious vocal elements and foreboding effects. The transition into act three is quite unique, achieved mainly with clustered percussion which is unquestionable more effective than the huge builds of yesteryear. Perfect for a clued up dance floor and a lovely complementary track to round out a stunning debut for False Intentions on Deepwibe Underground. An artist and label to keep a close eye on in 2019.
