Facundo Mohrr – Under [Magician On Duty]

Magician On Duty returns this week, welcoming Facundo Mohrr to the label for his debut single. With a career that began in 2006 the Argentinean artist has traversed the waters between deep and progressive house through releases on L'enfant terrible, Natura Sonoris, Shanti Moscow Radio, Sudbeat Music and Sound Avenue. Now making his debut on the burgeoning Magician On Duty imprint Facundo presents his latest single ‘Under’ alongside remixes from Dead-tones and Staves.

The original mix begins with a warm, rolling groove, crisp percussion and a phasing atmospheric presence. Soulful vocal wails and tribal infused drums then carry the narrative into a transitional break, where tonal tension shifts the energy into a more free flowing lead theme. Slowing building into an emotive collage, all the elements meld perfectly before melting down into a peaceful break. Short but poignant it’s a pleasant build back to the groove and a gorgeous third act finale.

The first interpretation is provided by Dead-Tones who is making his first appearance on Magician On Duty. Based in Los Angeles by way of Paris and Beirut Dead-Tones has been carving out a unique place in the deep house underground with releases on Dialtone, Kindisch and Motek Music. Here he delivers one of his all time best remixes taking ‘Under’ into deeper, funkier territory. The progressive essence of the original gets washed away here with a reshaped groove and housier rhythmic core. The vocal elements have also been utilized to perfection, reprocessed and feathered for maximum emotive effect. A mildly quirky yet still ethereal third act provides the icing on the cake so to speak, making for a stunning nine minute journey.

The release concludes with Staves who are also making their first appearance on the label. Hailing from Italy, Riccardo Pierini and Marco Vezzoli make up the Staves production duo and have a strong discography, highlighted by releases on Nick Warren’s The Soundgarden. Now making their much anticipated Magician On Duty debut they provide an excellent rendition of ‘Under’. It’s dubby qualities make for a great complement to the previous versions and also have it perfectly suited for late night play. Meditative rhythms and free flowing atmospherics paint a hazy, emotive sound story which likely sits as the duos all time best remix. Another gorgeous release from Magician On Duty who continue to put out quality deep house from fresh and exciting artists. Highly Recommended.
