Deersky's Soundteller Records welcomes DJ Paul to the label who presents his debut artist album. The Argentinean producer has been a fixture of his country’s electronic underground for almost three decades. In addition to heading up Metro.FM, Paul has also shared the booth with Hernan Cattaneo, Nick Warren, Sasha, Dave Seaman and Deep Dish while also showcasing his music on Balkan Connection, Blackhole, Sudbeat and Perfecto. Increasingly prolific in recent years, DJ Paul now unveils his first ever artist album via Soundteller Records.

Setting the tone for the entire collection is the opener ‘Buenos Aires AM’. Blissful in design, it’s delicate melodies and sweeping textures cast a luminous glow which ultimately flows through the core of the LP. It's gentle beats lead nicely into the chunky mid tempo grooves of 'Holly Words'. Spoken word samples get reprocessed to build a captivating narrative, while spacey arps and thick slabs of bass provide the vehicle to deliver it's cosmic message. Continuing to elevate mood is the third selection 'Sensitive', where the narrative's mid tempo cadence continues to open up via Mediterranean motifs, ghostly vocal trails and exotic percussion. We get our first taste of dance floor oriented material with 'Secret Place', a piece produced with rising star and fellow countryman NAHS. There's a nostalgic nod to this one with it's buoyant rhythms and playful melodic concepts. Meticulously crafted drums sit wonderfully in organic space, playing off those bright rhythms, while phasing vocal pads add a haunting prelude for the lead theme to work it's magic.

The album's midway point sees a shift back into electronica with the clattering percussion and creamy melodies of 'Vanythia'. Fuller and more robust than it's like minded predecessors, it proves to be the perfect setup for two of the LP's dance floor oriented cuts 'Those Moments of Rush' and 'Sensitive (Part II)'. The former sits as a smooth, hypnotic creation; relying on layers of arps and pulsating bass grooves to build an energetic seven minute storyboard. Timely modulation and indistinct vocals add nicely to the journey, before the beefier low-end of the latter elevates mood and drive one notch further. The Mediterranean motifs which featured so heavily in Part 1 work well over the swing heavy groove, highlighting the main break with their incandescent character. The album concludes with the appropriately titled ‘Raindrops’. The warm, mid-tempo groover is powered by stunning effects, spacey tones and scattered pianos which do resemble a gentle rainfall. All great album's find a way to provide a sense of conclusion, and this one does that with what is perhaps a reflective moment, one that wraps the journey up in a profound way. A superb debut album from DJ Paul who continues to be one of Argentina's most storied progressive music talents. Highly recommended.
