Dekkai – Paradox [ICONYC]

John Johnson's ICONYC rounds out the month of May by welcoming Dekkai to the label for their debut EP. The Slovakian duo first appeared in 2019 and found success almost immediately, notching releases on Colorize and Tronic, where their self described synthetic yet organic sound flourished. Now making another huge career step, Dekkai debuts on ICONYC with their 'Paradox' EP.

Comprised of two tracks it’s the euphoric, driving sounds of the title selection which open the release. Galloping grooves, powerful arps and an array of emotive melodies unite across this seven minute journey. Warm yet vibrant, it’s hopeful undertone carries into the main break, as ghostly vocal fragments drift atop smooth chord changes, before melting away into a gentle rush of noise, eventually sparking a poignant finale.

'Temple of the Snake' rounds the release out with decidedly more techno inspired approach. The tempo shifts up a touch and once again it’s a bed of punchy beats and rolling bass which anchor piece. Geared for peak time play, the percussion fires as dark stabs and ominous effects steal the air at opportune moments. The main break brings some dramatic appeal with a trail of sonic artifacts creating a surreal environment, perfectly setting the stage for an exhilarating conclusion. Massively powerful stuff from Dekkai which rounds out an excellent ICONYC debut for the Slovakian duo, who are most certainly an act to follow going forward. Highly recommended .
