Da Luka – Secret City (Remixed Edition) [Soundteller Records]

Deersky's Soundteller Records begins the month of September by revisiting Da Luka's 'Secret City' for new remixes. Originally released in June of last year it found the Albanian artist crafting a spacey yet groovy cut to round out what was a stellar two track offering. Now 14 months on, Soundteller invites Aman Anand, Julian Nates and Jorgio Kioris to re-interpret the track for 2019.

Providing the first interpretation is Aman Anand who comes off a series of strong remix collaborations with fellow Indian artist Priya Sen. Operating in a solo capacity here he takes 'Secret City' into his world of dark progressive minded rhythms. The buoyancy and roll which the foundation carries immediately grabs your attention. Fluid and groovy, it provides the perfect anchor for a narrative of percussive waves of spacey effects, the latter of which fuel the main break before shifting energy into a rousing finale.

One of this years most beloved progressive house artists has been Julian Nates. When fans of genre speak about future stars his name most certainly comes up and with good reason. The Argentinean artist has showcased his music on Nick Warren's The Soundgarden and Antrim's Or Two Strangers. Now fresh off a remix for Madloch's 3rd Avenue, Julian returns to Soundteller with an awesome rendition of 'Secret City'. Slightly deeper than Aman's remix, the tempo shifts down for a smooth mid-set style affair. Being one of the more modern purveyors of the progressive sound, Julian has always relied heavily on rhythm and groove rather than boisterous leads, and such is the case here with an eight minute journey that does more than enough to move a dance floor and just enough to keep the listener locked in.

The release concludes with Jorgio Kioris returning to the label for his second appearance. The Greek artist and Bloque festival founder first appeared on the Polish imprint in June of 2016 with his 'Estrelinha' single. Also laying claim to releases on Cid Inc's Replug Records, Movement Recordings, Genesis Music and Juicebox Music, Jorgio now returns to Soundteller with a superb take on 'Secret City. Aiming squarely at a peak time dance floor, the Kavala resident takes a rhythmic cue from the original while adding a more robust foundation and waves of fiery effects. Pulsating and fluid, it's charged cadence builds momentum with each successive loop, before the final break delivers one more dose of drama and seals it's brilliance. A massive remix from Jorgio which caps off a great set of updates for Da Luka's 'Secret City'. Don't miss it.
