Clivton – Reflect [Soundteller Records]

Deersky’s Soundteller Records adds another exciting new name to the label this week with Clivton making their debut. The promising German duo arrived on the scene in April of last year with an EP on Starmode. A subsequent EP (also courtesy Starmode) followed in March of this year, leading to the duos debut two tracker for Soundteller entitled ‘Reflect’.

Although Clivton’s work for Starmode verged on pop-dance territory the two cuts presented here more than fit Soundteller’s nu-progressive ethos. The title and showcase piece is a smooth, laid back slice of melodic house with a mysterious vocal narrative running through it. Fading to the forefront during a warm, enchanting break, the spiritual message is delivered loud and clear before a balmy rush of beats leads the journey home.

The companion piece ‘Driven’ ups the tempo considerably for an energetic peak time jaunt. It’s driving underbelly and rhythmic core is infectious while a tight, astral arp only adds to it’s powerful momentum. The break dials things down nicely though, resulting in a serene centrepiece and well executed energy bridge into an epic finale.

In a year where the scene and online shops seem to be fueled by who can get the biggest name, Soundteller continues to unearth new talent which is what makes them one of most exciting progressive house imprints of the year thus far.
