Chris Cargo – Above the Clouds / U Know Me [Beat Boutique]

Chris Cargo returns to DJ Zombi's Beat Boutique with a new double a-side release. The Irish artist got the year off to a great start with the release of his 'Coyote' single via his own If You Wait imprint. His May 2019 Beat Boutique offering 'Shimmer / Guidance' proved to be one of last years best progressive house releases, while he also notched a remix of Weekend Heroes 'Power Plant' in October. Now returning to the label for his second original project, Chris presents his much anticipated 'Above the Clouds / U Know Me' two track showcase.

Although known for his darker, peak time creations we see a different side of Chris here with a deeper, more heartfelt ethos across the EP. 'Above the Clouds' begins with a smooth percussive groove before opening up into a glowing atmospheric beauty. Dulcet pianos and haunting sweeps marry wispy effects and cinematic tones for what results in a heartfelt break for the ages. Sure to capture the imagination of your dance floor, it manages to stay right on the edge as the drop keeps things stripped and minimal before resembling for a poignant finale. A stunning musical creation from Chris and perhaps one to save for a sunrise session.

Rounding out the release is the mystical 'U Know Me' which sits as a perfect complement to it's predecessor. Deep and groovy in all the right ways, it's well carved foundation carries remarkable shape and character, while a haunting vocal motif and band of hypnotic arps elevate mood across the first act. Arpeggiated fragments highlight the main break, sitting against a backdrop of charming phrases before an expertly executed build transfers energy into a radiant final movement. Another gorgeous creation from Chris, which caps off one of 2020's most timeless progressive house release thus far. A great offering from DJ Zombi's Beat Boutique that's not to be missed.
