Billion Watchers – Amazing [Stellar Fountain]

Stellar Fountain opens the month of September with a new EP from Billion Watchers. Russian artist Andrey Bogdanov coined the Billion Watchers alias last year as an outlet for deeper, organic minded productions. Upon releasing his first track via Polyptych's 'New Talents & Friends' collection, he then went on to sign EPs with 3rd Avenue and Euphonic Visions. No stranger to Stellar Fountain, Andrey's 'Growth and Dawn' EP landed in June of this year marking the Russian's debut on the Hungarian imprint. Now making a quick turnaround, Billion Watchers returns to the label with 'Amazing' alongside remixes from Mariner + Domingo and Sapienta.

The childhood, carnival inspired motifs of 'Amazing' lead the release off and are sure to bring more fans to Billion Watchers transcendent sound. Clocking in at a lazy, laid back but rhythmically buoyant 115 bpm, this is a hugely distinctive creation and one which offers a wealth of remix potential. The companion piece 'Fire Among Sand' brings the tempo up a touch and showcases an amazing display of exotic drum design and warm atmospheric phrasing. Much like 'Amazing', the vibe and flow are truly amazing, keeping both feet on the dance floor while pushing musical narratives with jangly hooks and choir-like motifs.

The remixes find label artists Marnier + Domingo and Sapienta providing two excellent takes on the title selection 'Amazing'. First up Florida residents Mariner + Domingo continue their rapid rise with yet another excellent remix which is both creative and charming. The vocal narrative marries amazingly well with glassy cascades and whimsical pianos for a mix that not only represents the spirit of the original but adds several new twists along the way. Meanwhile, Robert R. Hardy under his Sapienta alias crafts a slow burning rendition which makes great use of the vocal in building tension and emotion across the first act and main break. Robert always has a great feel for keeping the story fresh and the drop exemplifies that perfectly, as he pulls back on the vocal in favour of the Mediterranean style musicality, before eventually re-introducing the vocal for a gorgeous finale. As Stellar Fountain continues on their journey further into organic territory, Billion Watchers has emerged as one of their standout artists, with two productions here that are hugely memorable. Expect more great music from him and the label going forward. Highly recommended.
