As the month of November winds to a close Balkan Connection welcomes Ampish back to the label for his debut EP. The Egyptian artist first appeared on the Serbian imprint just three weeks ago with a remix of ‘Runaway’ by Sohrab G. Also known for releases on Cid Inc’s Replug Records, Movement Recordings and Soundteller Records, Ampish now presents his debut EP for Balkan Connection alongside remixes from Simply City and SEQU3L.

Beginning with the title track Ampish explores the pure progressive side of his studio repertoire. Anchored by a chugging, floor friendly groove the Egyptian artist slowly builds rhythmic themes and astral motits around the pulsating framework. Percussive flurries combined with timely drops add dynamic moments along way, with none greater than the exhilarating build out of the break. Definitely something to get your dance floor moving in a hurry. The companion piece ‘Tribu’ is a much more introspective affair with a slower tempo and warm, laid back mood. Emotive pads hover over the momentous, well contoured groove as tasteful percussive elements and catchy tonal themes complete the hip swinging framework. Two gorgeous pieces of music from Ampish.

The lone interpretation of ‘Desolation’ is provided by Simply City who makes his label debut here. Hailing from Chile but now based in Montreal, Cesar Romero aka Simply City has become a fixture in the city’s burgeoning nightlife, earning a spot as one of Stereo’s resident DJs. On the production front he owns releases on Hernan Cattaneo’s Sudbeat Music, Nick Warren’s Hope Recordings and Tash’s Movement Recordings. Now making his Balkan Connection debut he puts a melodic twist on ‘Desolation’ with great results. The groove opens up considerably for a spacious journey into poignant tonal themes and finely tuned percussion. A superb complement to the original and one you’re likely to be hearing a lot in the coming months.

The release concludes with SEQU3L returning to the label and providing the lone interpretation of ‘Tribu’. The Indian artist first appeared on the Serbian imprint in April of 2017 with a remix of ‘Dopa Mine’ by Subconscious Tales. Now following releases on Beatfreak Recordings and Beat Boutique, SEQU3L provides a lovely rendition of ‘Tribu’ to round out the release. Keeping the tempo at around the 115 BPM mark has kept the warm, laid back ethos of the original nicely intact. There is a fuller, more impactful feel to this version though, likely making it more suited to the dance floor, as layers of percussion and dulcet themes sit atop a buzzing backdrop for a beautifully concise six minute journey. It would be hard to find fault with this release and it might be one of Balkan Connection’s best offerings all year, the only question is which versions do you play? Highly recommended.
